Plein Air Painting 18th March 2026, 10am, Snowden’s Bush Scenic Reserve
Usually we don’t meet on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, but this time we can take advantage of a lovely plein air painting area and meeting the original founders of our group.
Meet us for plein air painting on Wednesday 18th March 2026, 10am at the Community Church Hall, St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 68 Waimea West Road, Brightwater.
Park your car at the church carpark and if you like you can say hello to the “Creative Day” artists who are painting in the community hall next to the church. Snowden’s Bush Scenic Reserve starts behind the church property.
The artists at Creative Day know that we are coming and are looking forward to meeting you for morning tea if you wish. I let them know that we will be meeting for lunch at the HQ cafe and they might join us.
There are three locations you can paint:
- Snowdens Bush Scenic Reserve with lovely trees
- The church and surrounding old graveyard
- Wai-iti River
If you like some river view join me a bit further down the road by the Wai-iti River. I will park my car just before the river bridge and walk the rest to the river (from memory it’s a lot of river rocks). There are some lovely views up and down the river.
Lunch
Let’s meet at Headquarters cafe in Brightwater around 12pm. Because we might be a bit scattered I will not be able to collect you for lunch. Therefore just come to the cafe whenever you are ready.
History of Creative Day and our Plein Air Painting Group
It might be interesting for you to learn that the artists of Creative Day were the original founders of our plein air painting group! Originally the group was known as the Tasman Visual Arts Group (TVAG). While the group is not an incorporated society any more, the artists still meet every 3rd Wednesday of the month in the Brightwater Community Church Hall and the plein air painters meet on every other Wednesday. Plein Air Painting has been going for about 20 years now. I took over organising our plein air painting group in 2018, eight years ago(!), my goodness time flies!
Please bring your painting supplies, a chair, bug spray, sun screen, morning tea/lunch and good weather.
Plein air painting is scheduled for every Wednesday morning, except the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Please note, we won’t meet if the weather is not accomodating (rain or strong winds).
A note for those who can only do plein air painting closer to Nelson and Richmond:
Barbara Doig has kindly offered to organise separate plein air painting outings for those who want to stay closer to the Richmond/Nelson area. Please contact her directly if you are interested. Her contact details are 022 301 2690, [email protected]
A heads up:
The week after it was suggested to go to Monaco.
