Plein Air Painting, 6th April 2022, Waahi Taakaro Reserve (Location Change!)

Meet us for plein air painting on Wednesday 6th April 2022, 10am, at Waahi Taarkaro Reserve, Maitai (not Hanby Park!). The Reserve offers trees and the Maitai River.  There is a swimming hole (for those who are keen), a playground (just in case you want to get back on a swing) and toilets. Access is up Maitai Valley Road, past Branford Park on your left, over Jickell’s Bridge then Gibbs Bridge, and straight after that on your right is Waahi Taakaro.  Barely 1km from where Maitai Valley Road comes off Nile Street.

I’m not sure about a cafe close by but the Suter cafe is not far away. The current exhibitions are fabulous:

– Landscape Paintings from the Kelliher Trust (until 22/05),

– Marti Friedlander: Portraits of The Artists (unit 11/04), and

– David Ryan: Harbinger: Ice Across the Path (Wield the Broom) (until 12/06).

– The McKee gallery is receiving works for the Autumn exhibition from 2:30-6pm so you can drop off your plein air work straight away after lunch (just kidding).

Directions: Coming from Nile Street cross the Maitai River, then take the first left into Mill Street which leads into Hanby Park. Click here to download the map: Waahi Taakaro Reserve

Please bring your painting supplies, a chair, bug spray, sun screen, morning tea/lunch, and good weather.

If you have any suggestions on where to go for plein air, please let me know and I will include it in the list.

Plein air is scheduled for every Wednesday morning, except the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Please contact me if you like regular updates by email.
