I enjoyed creating these artworks as they connect to community and ancestry. These buildings fascinated me because they were constructed with the materials found in the area, often beautiful wood and stones, rocks. Also, I enjoyed reading up on the history of the buildings and their owners. It enriched the connection to my neighbourhood. I have always believed that beauty, strength and guidance are influenced by our surroundings, the present and the past. Historic structures are witnesses of life, love, whanau, pride, ambitions and connection to the land. They are witnesses of time, and experiencing them can fill you with pride for your ancestry and strength for your future.
