Cashmere Bay

Cashmere Bay captures an early morning in May 2024 at Lake Brunner, Moana. It was gorgeous to paint at this beautiful location, overcast, with no wind and only a few black swans swimming past. Very peaceful. Medium: Watercolour Size: 36cm x 28cm Framed Size: 51cm x 42cm The painting is currently exhibited at Wall To Wall Art Gallery, Nelson, NZ.

Old Wharf Motueka

Old Wharf Motueka” was painted at a plein air painting outing to a decommissioned historic wharf in Motueka, NZ. In the morning when I arrived at the location gloomy black clouds had followed me and sure enough it started raining soon. All I could paint was the view from my car as I set up my painting gear at the boot. This worked remarkably well with the brush in one hand and the umbrella in the other to avoid getting…

Mapua Wharf from Rabbit Island

This painting was done in 2024 when I took the ferry from Mapua to Rabbit Island with two fellow artists. We painted the view of the wharf when a weka (New Zealand flightless bird) came by and stole Jo’s art supplies. The art supplies were recovered quickly as the bird discovered that they were not eatable and dropped everything while fleeing the scene. Jenny, the other artist, placed the leg of her chair into an ants nest. Plein air painting…

Photos of Watercolour Painting on Rabbit Island, NZ

Last week we were three artists painting with watercolours on Rabbit Island, Mapua, NZ. We had to take the ferry, a rather “unique” looking boat, to cross over the channel and then had a total of two hours before being picked up again. While painting a weka stole one artist’s sponge and declared it non-edible. Then one of us placed their chair on an ants nest. So we can claim some animal encounter, right?! So much fun!.

Old Wharf Road

"Old Wharf Road" was painted at our recent plein air painting outing at Motueka's Old Wharf Road (NZ). The idea was to paint the Janie Seddon shipwreck but black clouds came in as I arrived and sure enough it started raining soon. All I could paint was the view from my car as I set up my painting gear at the boot (the Janie Seddon was behind the wharf). This worked really well with the brush in one hand and…
