“7am at Java Hut” is the larger one of two oil paintings done of Java Hut, the funky coffee place in Mapua. For a group of men it has become tradition to meet in the morning at 7am when the shop opens to grab a coffee and then go for a walk to the waterfront. The buildings at the Nelson Port are shown in an old fashion manner with the typical reddish New Zealand roofs. Today the port looks more industrial than it is depicted in this painting.
