Broadgreen Historic House
This painting shows Nicole’s palette knife interpretation of the Broadgreen Historic House in Stoke/Nelson, New Zealand. The various colours applied in thick palette knife strokes have to work together through tonal values to depict the image of this old homestead with its picket fence and the flowers and bushes in front of it. Tulips
The work is about the flowers as well as the material “paint”. The paint is applied with thick impasto palette knife strokes. Each colour stroke has its individual importance and reflects different hues, but then connects through tonal values to form an image. Both paintings, Tulips and Daffodils, relate to each other in this approach. “You have to feel your way into it. Plein Air Painting, 7th June 2023, Silverbirch Farm, Ruby Bay
Meet us for plein air painting on 7th June 202, 10am, Silverbirch Farm, 300 Pomona Road, Ruby Bay. Silverbirch Farm offers views over the Nelson Bay towards the Richmond hills or the other side towards Mt. Arthur. There are plenty of chickens, goats, ducks and cows to paint as well. Emma’s Flowers
A gorgeous bouquet of flowers given to Nicole by her neighbour Emma became the inspiration for this artwork. Nicole’s intention was not only to show flowers but also the feeling that goes into picking flowers, arranging them in the bowl and the joy they give when you look at them. In March we went Plein Air Painting at "the Kumeras", an area known historically for the kumera fields on either side of Staples Road in Motueka. It was a true delight. The weather was gorgeous, the wind a bit challenging and the incoming tide kept us on our toes as the water crept closer and closer to our easels.
